GenerLink installation in Massachusetts typically takes under 30 minutes when performed by a licensed electrician or utility-approved installer. Unlike traditional transfer switches that require rewiring your electrical panel, GenerLink connects directly to your utility meter socket — no internal wiring changes needed. Your installer will remove the meter, slide GenerLink into place, replace the meter, and connect your generator inlet. Most Massachusetts homeowners have their system fully operational the same day. Always use a licensed electrician familiar with your local Massachusetts codes and permit requirements.

The right generator size for a Massachusetts home depends on which appliances you need to power during an outage. Massachusetts homeowners dealing with nor'easters and coastal storms should prioritize essential loads like HVAC, refrigerator, sump pump, and medical equipment. A 5,000–8,000 watt generator handles most essential loads for an average home, while larger homes or those with electric HVAC may need 10,000+ watts. GenerLink's MA23 model supports up to 7,500 running watts (30A) and the MA24 supports up to 10,000 running watts (40A).

Permit requirements vary by county and municipality in Massachusetts. In most cases, a licensed electrician handling the installation will obtain the necessary permits as part of the job. Some Massachusetts utilities require a simple notification rather than a formal permit, while others may require an inspection. We recommend contacting your local building department and your utility company before installation. With GenerLink and a properly sized generator, Massachusetts homeowners can power the appliances that matter most during nor'easters and coastal storms outages. Essential loads typically include refrigerator (400–800W), window AC or furnace fan (500–1,500W), lights (200–400W), phone chargers and electronics (200W), and sump pump (800–1,500W). Higher-capacity models like the MA24-S with surge protection can handle starting loads from central AC units and well pumps. The key is calculating your total load before choosing a generator.
