Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about GenerLink — from generator sizing and compatibility to installation, warranties, and solar.
Generator Compatibility
What size generator do I need for GenerLink?
The MA23-N/S (30A) supports generators running up to 7,200 watts continuous. The MA24-N/S (40A) supports up to 9,600 watts continuous. Generators below 4,000W cannot reliably start most home appliances. Generators above 9,600W are incompatible with GenerLink.
Will my generator work with GenerLink?
Your generator must have all of the following:
- 120/240V dual-voltage output
- 4-prong twist-lock outlet — L14-30 for 30A models or L14-50 for 40A models
- Running wattage between 4,400W and 9,600W
- No full-panel GFCI protection
⚠️ GFCI Issue: Generators with full-panel GFCI include internal lockout circuits that block the neutral-to-ground bond required by GenerLink. This is the most commonly overlooked compatibility problem.
Using Your GenerLink
How do I know if my GenerLink is working?
🟢 Green
Utility power present — normal operation
🔵 Blue
Generator active and properly connected
🟡 Yellow
Overload — reduce load at breaker panel
🔴 Red
Fault detected — stop the generator.
Call GPP at 800-886-3837 (Mon–Fri 8:30 AM–4 PM EST).
After hours: submit an RA form.
How do I connect the GenerLok cable?
Insert the GenerLok connector into the GenerLink inlet, then rotate clockwise until you hear and feel an audible snap. This snap confirms the mechanical lock is fully engaged. If no snap occurs, the connection is not secure — do not operate your generator until it snaps.
What does the clicking sound mean when I turn off my generator?
The clicking sound when your generator shuts off is the GenerLink automatically transferring back to utility power. This is normal operation and confirms the unit is working correctly. The 2–3 second delay is the Break-Before-Make safety isolation process.
Installation & Approval
Does GenerLink require utility approval?
Yes. Most utility companies require approval before a GenerLink is installed. The approval process involves a compatibility check, site inspection, and a signed interconnection agreement. Do not purchase before confirming approval.
Check Utility Approval →Can I install GenerLink myself?
No. GenerLink must be installed by your utility company or a licensed electrician (Approved Installer). DIY installation voids the 7-year warranty and may violate NEC 2020 requirements. Installation takes under 30 minutes and is typically low-cost or included by the utility.
Warranty & Solar
Where do I go for product support or to file a warranty claim?
Submit our Return Authorization form and select “Yes” when asked if it’s a warranty or defect issue. We forward warranty intake automatically to Global Power Products (GPP), the manufacturer of GenerLink, who handles all warranty evaluation directly. You’ll receive a reply from their team within a few business days at the email address you provide.
For setup help, troubleshooting, or general product questions on a unit you already own, use the same form — we’ll route it to GPP for you.
For everything else (order status, billing, returns of unopened units, installer questions, or sales), email us at support@buygenerlink.com and we’ll handle it directly.
What is the White Goods warranty?
The MA23-S and MA24-S surge-protected models include a 15-year warranty covering appliances damaged by surge events: $1,000 maximum per appliance, $10,000 maximum per home. Covered appliances include washers, dryers, stoves, ovens, refrigerators, freezers, HVAC units, dishwashers, and garbage disposals. Coverage is secondary to existing manufacturer warranties and homeowner insurance.
Can I use GenerLink with solar panels?
Yes, with one requirement: your solar system must be turned off at the auxiliary disconnect before operating a generator through GenerLink. Running a solar inverter simultaneously with a generator can damage the inverter and utility meter. Always turn off your solar system first.
