Mountain West Electric — Florence, MT
Bitterroot Valley electrical contractors — backup power for ranches and rural homes where the grid gives up first.
About Mountain West Electric — Florence, MT
Mountain West Electric has been wiring backup power into western Montana homes for nineteen years. Founded in 2007 by a second-generation electrician who grew up on a Bitterroot Valley cattle ranch, our four-person crew specializes in residential GenerLink installations across the Ravalli, Missoula, and Granite county utility service areas — most of which depend on NorthWestern Energy overhead lines that were never built with snow load or wildfire-related PSPS in mind.
We’ve handled GenerLink installs on over three hundred rural properties since 2018, when the device first cleared for NorthWestern’s service territory. Our sweet spot is homes at the end of long driveways on ranch roads — the ones that always lose power first and get restored last. We know which substations feed which canyons, which roads the utility crews skip in January, and which 1970s-era farmhouse panels need a service upgrade before a backup connection is worth wiring.
All work is permitted through the Montana State Electrical Board, every install includes a homeowner walkthrough on the driveway with a portable generator hookup demonstration, and we carry commercial general liability appropriate for ranch and outbuilding work. Mountain weather does what it does — we make sure your well pump, freezer, and propane furnace don’t care.
Services We Offer
Service Area
We serve the Bitterroot Valley and surrounding Ravalli, Missoula, and Granite counties — from Lolo in the north to Darby in the south, and east to the I-90 corridor through Missoula and Lolo Pass. Typical coverage radius is 60 miles from Florence.
Residential GenerLink installs within 30 miles carry no travel fee. Ranch and outbuilding jobs in Granite County or the Blackfoot River corridor include a flat $125 trip fee that's waived if the install proceeds. Properties more than 75 miles from Florence we'll refer to a vetted partner rather than stretch response times that hurt emergency work closer to home.
What Customers Say
We lost power for six days during the February 2024 cold snap — wind chill at negative forty, highway closed to Missoula, National Guard wellness checks up and down the valley. Called Mountain West the day the roads reopened. Had a GenerLink installed inside of three weeks, permit and all. Next storm, we'll be the house on the road with lights on.— David, Stevensville, MT
Honest quote, honest work. They walked our fifteen-acre property, flagged that our 1978 panel needed replacement before a backup hookup would be safe, and gave us a combined estimate with line items for each piece. Three other electricians we called either wouldn't drive out or tried to sell us a twenty-thousand-dollar standby system we didn't need.— Karen, Corvallis, MT
GenerLink plus a panel swap plus 200-amp service upgrade on a 1960s ranch house. Started at 7am, done by 4pm. They put drop cloths down in the mud room and hauled the old panel out without scuffing a wall. Referred them to three neighbors already.— Robert, Hamilton, MT
